Varied summer weather results in 'bumper crops' for some farmers

Farmers in the Channel Islands have experienced a mixed summer, with some reporting "bumper crops" despite the varying weather. Jersey saw more sunshine while Guernsey received above-average rainfall, according to Jersey Met.

Guernsey farmer Julian Ogier produced a strong maize crop due to ample moisture but now faces challenges harvesting in wet conditions. Similarly, Jersey vineyard manager Andrew Smith noted that while sunshine was plentiful, it came at the wrong time for grape ripening.

Other farmers, like Peter Girard of the Golden Guernsey Goat Farm, saw benefits from the rain but struggled with grazing conditions. Despite the challenges, overall farm production remained steady.
