"Rare Chance to Manage St Helier Lido"

The government is seeking individuals, businesses, and community groups to take over the operation of the "historic and iconic" coastal lido in St Helier.

According to the Minister for Infrastructure, Constable Andy Jehan, an expression of interest document has been issued for the Havre des Pas seawater pool and its associated concession facility. The lido, described as a "historic and iconic coastal destination," offers a "unique opportunity" to contribute both to the island's community life and its visitor economy.

Constable Jehan emphasized the significance of the lido, calling it a "vital public asset." The current tenant is set to vacate the premises in October, and the government is now looking for new operators.

"We are inviting individuals, businesses, and community groups interested in running the lido for the benefit of the community to come forward," he said. "This is a chance to explore what can be achieved at the lido."

The government is open to proposals for operating either the entire site or part of it. Two potential management models are being considered: one where an operator would take over the full premises, maintain it, and potentially run a business, such as a café or water sports company; and another where an operator would manage the facility while the government retains overall control.

Applications for expressions of interest are due by 31 December.

Achieving the Vision Jehan noted that this timeline provides interested parties with sufficient time to develop business plans and present strong cases for why they should be selected to run the lido. He stressed the importance of ensuring the lido remains a year-round, inclusive facility for the community.

"We're open to all ideas and options, as long as they focus on the interests of the island's residents, particularly those in St Helier," Jehan said. "We are confident that we can create an exciting future for Havre des Pas and look forward to collaborating with interested parties to achieve this vision."

He also confirmed that the government, which initially planned to invest £350,000, has now increased the budget to £500,000 to support improvements. "With the premises soon to be vacant, we can make progress on the necessary work," he said.

A formal tender process will follow after the expression of interest phase is complete.
