Operation of public swimming pools may be put up for tender

Jersey politicians are set to debate the future management of the island's Havre Des Pas bathing pool, as the current leaseholder's agreement approaches its end. The lease, currently held by the company Beserved, is due to expire at the end of October, and no new arrangement has been finalized with the government.

Deputy David Warr, chairman of the Lido Steering Group, is pushing for an interim solution. He has urged fellow States members to extend the current tenants' lease until the end of the year while the tender process is completed. According to Warr, maintaining continuity is crucial to the pool's future success.

"Closing a business is easy, but reopening it and making it successful again is a much bigger challenge," he stated.

In September, Deputy Warr announced plans to establish a limited company dedicated to revitalizing the pool. His vision is to move the pool's management away from government oversight and transition to a community-led charitable framework, ensuring long-term sustainability for the facility.

"We must prevent Havre Des Pas from suffering the same neglect as other local landmarks like La Folie, Fort Regent, and the Victoria Pool," Warr warned. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring the pool becomes a thriving attraction for both locals and visitors.

The States members are expected to debate Warr's proposals later this month.
