New MV Mistral Berthing Trial Scheduled for Upcoming Date

A berthing trial for a 502ft (153m) ship in the harbours of the Channel Islands and Portsmouth is scheduled for next week.

DFDS, one of the companies involved, is conducting the trial as part of contingency planning by the States of Guernsey and the Government of Jersey.

The ship will depart Portsmouth on Monday, arriving at St Peter Port Harbour at 08:00 BST on Tuesday to attempt berthing, before heading to St Helier later that day. DFDS is one of three companies shortlisted to operate ferry services to and from the Channel Islands, with the current contract set to expire in April 2025.

Condor Ferries, which currently operates the routes, is also bidding for the new 15-year contract, along with Irish Ferries.

The DFDS trial, initially scheduled for earlier this week, was postponed due to poor weather conditions. This is the third ship the company has trialled in the past year.

Jersey's Minister for Economic Development, Kirsten Morel, has stated that the announcement of the winning bidder will be made later this month.
