New dates have been confirmed for the postponed surfing competition in Jersey, which was delayed due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The 2024 GB Surfing Cup will now be held from Friday, 25 October to Sunday, 27 October at the Watersplash in St Ouen’s Bay, organisers announced. The event was initially postponed due to an expected "lack of swell" during the original dates earlier in October. Event director David Ferguson expressed optimism about the upcoming weekend, stating that weather conditions should create "the magical formula" for great surfing.
'Prestigious Event'
Organisers anticipate waves ranging between 4ft and 5ft (1.2m to 1.5m) with light to moderate onshore winds.
Teams from England, Scotland, Wales, and the Channel Islands will compete for both individual and team titles, according to the organisers. The winner of the annual competition will also have the opportunity to join GB Surfing’s Progression Squad, which consists of elite athletes with Olympic potential.
Arlene Maltman, former British champion and GB Surfing Director, described the GB Cup as "a prestigious event in the surfing calendar," adding that it promises a showcase of top-tier British surfing talent.
