A government initiative to help reduce carbon emissions among island businesses has received a “positive response,” according to Jersey officials.
The Government of Jersey announced that businesses were able to apply for funding to purchase second-hand electric vans, aimed at encouraging a transition from petrol and diesel vehicles. All 25 available incentives, offering up to £4,000—covering 40% of each vehicle's cost—have now been fully applied for, with allocations made on a first-come, first-served basis.
Deputy Steve Luce, Jersey’s Minister for the Environment, expressed his satisfaction with the program's swift uptake, saying he was "pleased" by the "immediate and positive response" from local businesses. "This highlights a strong commitment among businesses to go electric and support Jersey's decarbonization goals," Luce noted.
He emphasised that business vehicles contribute a substantial portion of the island’s transport emissions, so shifting to electric options is a significant step toward a sustainable transport future for Jersey. The government also continues to offer an electric vehicle purchase incentive for both individuals and businesses, providing up to £3,500 toward the cost of a new electric car or van.
