Jersey-based airline Blue Islands has announced it will suspend its flights to Birmingham for the winter, following the arrival of competitor EasyJet on the route. Blue Islands will halt its Jersey-Birmingham services from 2 November, with plans to resume in March 2025.
Blue Islands cited EasyJet's entry into the market, with two flights a week starting this summer, as a major factor undermining its profitability on the route. EasyJet responded by stating they aim to meet demand by offering competitive fares and more choice for consumers.
Blue Islands expressed regret over the suspension, noting that passengers will now have only two EasyJet flights per week, rather than its daily service. The airline added that the two business models cannot coexist profitably on the route.
Despite the suspension, Blue Islands will continue its year-round Jersey-East Midlands flights, hoping to attract some Birmingham passengers in need of regular flights.
