Three firefighters from Jersey, who rescued a man from the sea, have been named finalists for a Pride of Britain award.
Jonny Burch, Chris Sweeny, and Nick Willis were part of a team that saved a swimmer caught in a powerful current in August 2023.
They are competing with four other nominees for the This Morning Emergency Services Award. Firefighter Jonny Burch expressed his surprise and gratitude, calling the nomination a "real surprise" and a "great honour." Due to rough conditions, a lifeboat couldn't be deployed, so the firefighters worked together to swim out and rescue the swimmer from the crashing waves near the sea wall.
"It was a very dynamic incident, and it's a privilege to be part of an organisation where teamwork is crucial, and you can always rely on your team," Burch said.
If they win, the firefighters will be honoured at an awards ceremony at Grosvenor House in London on 21 October.
