Government updates free period product scheme

The States of Jersey has relaunched its free period product scheme after making improvements based on public feedback.

Initially launched in September 2022, the programme aims to provide easy access to period products. Following public input, the government has introduced three new distribution methods to better serve islanders, according to officials.

Social Security Minister Lyndsay Feltham stated: "The feedback has been invaluable and has helped us create a refreshed scheme that I believe will better meet the needs of islanders." She also emphasised that the distribution process was redesigned to ensure it is as effective as possible.

The updated distribution methods are:

  1. Caught Short: Wall-mounted dispensers will offer vending-sized packs of two or three pads or tampons.

  2. Monthly Supply: Larger packs of pads, tampons, and liners will be distributed at 22 community locations.

  3. Reusable Products: Reusable period pants and menstrual cups will be available at four locations—Brook, Le Bas Centre, GUM, and The Bridge.

Since its launch, the scheme has distributed 55,000 packs of products.
