Evidence related to explosion submitted to officers

Authorities have submitted a detailed collection of evidence regarding a fatal explosion in a residential block to the Law Officers Department for review, according to investigators.

The explosion occurred at the Haut du Mont apartments on Pier Road, St Helier, on 10 December 2022, claiming the lives of ten people. Officials from the States of Jersey Police and the Health and Safety Inspectorate have handed over initial case files, which include evidence, documentation, and expert assessments, to allow law officers to assess potential charges.

Three men, arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, were questioned and released on bail in August 2023 and again in April. They have not yet been charged.

Authorities confirmed that investigations remain ongoing, with teams continuing to gather evidence and conduct further inquiries. Family liaison officers are providing ongoing support to the families of the victims.

As part of "Operation Spire," Jersey police have followed 2,024 leads, taken 1,157 witness statements, and gathered 1,988 exhibits. The operation involves two parallel investigations being conducted by police and the Health and Safety Inspectorate.
