Coastguard Open Day Highlights Service's Work and Operations

An event offering a behind-the-scenes look at Jersey Coastguard's operations has been praised as a success.

Approximately 70 people attended the open day at Maritime House on Sunday, including the family of a person who was rescued after falling ill at sea, according to organisers.

Watch officer Luke de la Haye described the event as an opportunity to highlight the service’s work. "I even met the family of someone who had fallen ill on a vessel I helped return to shore, which was amazing," he said.

Positive Feedback

Mr. de la Haye added, "It was fantastic to see the Maritime Operations Centre so busy on Sunday. Whenever I glanced outside, the pontoons were bustling." "There was a wide range of visitors eager to learn more about what we do, and all the feedback we received was positive," he noted.

Ports of Jersey said the open day aimed to provide the public with a deeper understanding of the team’s work and services.
